Doll Making/Maquettes
While apprenticing with dollmaker, Stephanie Blythe, I helped to make 60 marottes for a United Federation of Doll Clubs luncheon. This is a sample of the work I created. This process included plaster mold making, pouring, refining, firing, painting porcelain, small-scale costume sewing/creation, and silk and ribbon dyeing.
Above: The doll I constructed under Stephanie’s guidance, January-April 2022.
Below: Some of the finished marottes, a porcelain head in a plaster mold, ribbon and silk treated with Rit Dye.
(Below-Below: Me, in Stephanie’s studio, pouring porcelain and dying ribbon.)
